Kendall Sheriff Urges Residents to Check Sex Offender List as Halloween Approaches

Oct 07, 2016 07:40AM ● By Steven Jack
With Halloween trick-or-treating around the corner, the Kendall County Sheriff's Office is urging parents to check in on the area's registered sex offenders.

There are 34 registered sex offenders in the county, and the sheriff's office recommends avoiding homes where those offenders live during trick-or-treating. Residents can find local registered sex offenders by clicking here, and entering an address.  You may also find sex offenders in Oswego and Montgomery listed below.

"We do the best we can in making sure sex offenders live where they tell us, so it is crucial that our citizens visit our website to see who the registered sex offenders are and where they are living.” said Sheriff Dwight Baird. "The mapping and address feature found on the website pinpoints exactly where an offender lives.”

In addition to checking the sheriff's list of sex offenders, residents also are urged to sign-up for free automatic email notifications that are sent when a sex offender moves into a specified radius of any address submitted.

“If you aren’t planning on trick-or-treating in your neighborhood, but will be in a family or friend’s neighborhood, register their address beforehand so you know which houses to avoid," Baird said. "You can register any and all of the addresses where your children spend a lot of time; for example friend’s, grandparent’s, or babysitter’s addresses."

The alerts are sent
as soon as a new offender has registered with the Sheriff's Office.
To register for the email alerts, log on to the sheriff's website, click on the “find sex offenders” link and follow the instructions under the "register for email alerts" button at the top of the page.
