Ever since Oswego Village President Gail Johnson announced in late March that national burger chain Five Guys Burger and Fries was planning an Oswego location, residents have been watching the corner of Route 34 and Douglas Road for signs of an opening.

Yet, with no progress on the space located between the new AT&T store and Mattress Firm, many have been wondering if and when the eatery will ever open.

"I'm ready for it too," said Rod Zenner, community development director with the village of Oswego.

Zenner said the chain is planning a fall opening of its Oswego location and is currently in the design phase of the interior build out. Once the plans are submitted and approved, the work should go fairly quickly, he said.

Fast-casual restaurant Blaze Pizza had previously signed a letter of intent to locate in the same location as Five Guys, but later pulled out of the deal, village officials said. Five Guys was ranked in the top 5 of businesses Oswego residents want in town on a recent community survey.

Five Guys was started in Virginia in 1986. Currently there are over 1,000 Five Guys franchises located across the United States.
