Troop 31 has had an exciting 2016 and we have achieved many accomplishments! We have attended camp outs, hikes and weekly meetings. Our Troop is always on-the-go & looking for new adventures!
Our first historical adventure occurred April 22-April 24, 2016 during the Lincoln Pilgrimage in Springfield, Illinois. The troop toured the Illinois Capital Building, viewed the governor’s office and participated as spectators while the House of Representatives & Senate were in session.
The group also traveled through Lincoln’s Historic Site and Visitor’s Center. Lastly, the Troop visited New Salem and caught a glimpse of what life may have looked like during Lincoln’s time. This was a very educational and exciting adventure for our Scouts, assisting them in completing activities for the Citizenship in the Nation Merit Badge.
The next camp out attended was Spring Camporee. Spring Camporee was held at Camp Big Timber the weekend of April 29-May 1, 2016. Although a very rainy weekend, the scouts enjoyed building camp gadgets, making rope using twine and a hand crank with paddle, creating a Troop 31 gateway and participating in a flag ceremony.
The scouts also enjoyed a festive Order of the Arrow Call-Out ceremony. Congratulations to the following Scouts voted in to the Order of the Arrow: Alex Arand, Braeden Culbertson, John Danison, Ryan Elliot, Tyler Eng, Logan Goodbred, Alex Johnson, Joey Johnson, Robert Johnson, Emerson Kincaid, Grant Lesley, Ben Miller, James Miller, Andy Nuttle, Zachary Pietrowiak, Charlie Schmelzer, Brenden Vecchione & Omarion Vivrette.
Troop 31 Scouts have also been enjoying hours of fun and fitness in the outdoors as our hiking program has really taken off this year! A few recent hikes include hikes at Herrick Lake, Oakhurst Forest Preserve, an orienteering hike in downtown Oswego & a ten-miler at Starved Rock. The scouts are really enjoying getting out in the wilderness & learning new skills.
Our Troop gathers together as a group at the Oswego Presbyterian Church on Monday nights. We inform all Scouts of upcoming events, work on achieving rank requirements, congratulate our newest Eagle Scouts and show support for each others’ successes..
