Thirteen-year-old Libby Bonthala was already planning to attend Tuesday night’s Justin Bieber concert — now, she’ll be a part of it.
Libby, a dancer with Oswego’s Storm Dance Alliance Academy, will get to perform for an audience of thousands at the St. Louis stop on Bieber’s “Purpose” tour. Mom Tracy Teeters-Bonthala said the Murphy Junior High student was chosen from among thousands of kids who submitted audition videos on YouTube.
“We were going to come to the concert anyway — we just didn’t know she would be onstage,” Bonthala said.
Libby posted her audition video on March 6. She didn’t have to wait long before she got an email from concert organizers.
“It said, ‘Take a deep breath – this is really happening.’ She was screaming,” Bonthala added.
Libby, who was already in St. Louis for a dance competition over the weekend, will head to the Scottrade Center tonight before the show to begin rehearsing.
After five years with the Storm Dance Alliance and a year of recreational classes, the 13-year-old is already an experienced dancer, focusing primarily on hip-hop. With family members heading to the show tonight to cheer her on, Bonthala said Libby isn’t showing any signs of stage fright.
“She’s cool as a cucumber,” Bonthala said. “To her, a stage is a stage.”
