Apr 13, 2016 09:14AM ● By Shannon Antinori

UPDATED 5:15 P.M. WEDNESDAY Montgomery Police Chief Daniel Meyers said after an investigation, the claim of this attempted child abduction appears to have been unfounded.

ORIGINAL REPORT

Montgomery Police are investigating an alleged child abduction attempt after a man reportedly approached and grabbed a student as he walked to school on Monday morning.

Police said the student was walking to Kaneland McDole Elementary, 2901 Foxmoor Drive, between 8:30 and 8:50 a.m. when a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt approached him from behind.

“The man asked if the student needed lunch money, to which the student replied, ‘NO,’” police said. “The student was then asked if he wanted to come back to the man’s house to see his pets. The student said, ‘NO!' at which point the man grabbed the student by the shoulders.”

Montgomery police said the student stepped on the man’s foot and was able to run to safety.

The student was not harmed in the incident, police said. According to a message posted on the Kaneland Community Unit School District website, police were immediately notified after the student's mother reported the incident to school officials on Tuesday morning.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Montgomery Police at 630-897-8707.
