Kendall County farmers Tod and Cindy Stewart didn’t hesitate when they learned they had been chosen for a $2,500 grant, to be donated to the charity of their choice.
The local farmers recently received a grant from America’s Farmers Grow Communities, and said they wanted to donate the money to an organization that supports veterans.
They chose Operation Welcome You Home, NFP, a Naperville-based non-profit that organizes welcome events for returning servicemen and women and works to provide support and resources to local veterans.
"This will help us to continue our mission of supporting veterans needing support,” Operation Welcome You Home founder Donna Morsovillo said. The group’s recent efforts include providing John Deere riding lawn mowers with snow blowers to three local wounded veterans.
The $2,500 grant was provided by America’s Farmers Grow Communities, which works with farmers to support local non-profit causes that positively impact farming communities.
The organization has worked with farmers nationwide to donate more than $22 million to over 8,000 community organizations across rural America.
Winning farmers award donations to non-profits to help fight hunger, purchase life-saving fire and EMS equipment, support agriculture youth leadership programs, purchase classroom resources and more.
