Spring is just around the corner, and with it comes road construction season.
While no start date has been set for spring road work in the Route 71 widening project, Village of Oswego Public Works Director Jennifer Hughes said noise wall work on the project began Feb. 26.
This latest phase includes the installation of noise walls along the north side of Route 71 starting at Douglas Street and extending east to nearby commercial buildings, and on the south side near the Lakeview and Arbor Gate subdivisions.
When noise wall installation moves to the south side, Hughes said it's likely a lane of traffic will have to be closed.
As for when the actual road construction will begin, IDOT spokeswoman Gianna Urgo said workers will return to the area in the next few weeks, depending on the weather, to complete the construction of the fourth lane.
Urgo also said the end of the $21 million widening project is in sight with a projection completion of this fall.
Residents can check back with the village website for updates on the project.
