A 21-year-old Plainfield man told police he may have fallen asleep at the wheel before hitting a semi head on along Route 126 early Friday morning.
According to a Kendall County Sheriff's Office report, the man was traveling west on Route 126 near Hopkins Road at about 2:45 a.m. when his car crossed over the center line and collided with a semi driven by a 52-year-old Berwyn man.

When emergency crews arrived they found the Plainfield man's vehicle had spun off the roadway with him trapped inside.

Once the man was freed from the vehicle he was taken by Lifestar Emergency Helicopter to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

The man received serious, but non-life threatening injuries, the sheriff's office said, and no tickets have been issued yet. The driver of the semi was not injured.
