A three-hour standoff with an armed man ended peacefully Monday after the man handed over his gun, Oswego police said.

Police were dispatched to the man’s home in the 5000 block of Fox Sedge Court for a well-being check at around 10:12 a.m., according to Oswego Police spokeswoman Cathy Nevara.

Officers who arrived at the home encountered the man in his garage, armed with a handgun.

As a precaution, police set up a perimeter around the home and advised nearby residents to go to their basements and stay away from doors and windows, Nevara said. Traffic on Half Round Road was also shut down.

Just before 1:30 p.m, after several hours of speaking with police, the man agreed to cooperate and relinquished his gun, Nevara said.

The man was taken to an area hospital for examination.

As of Monday afternoon, no charges had been filed, although the incident remains under investigation, police said.

According to Oswego Police, officers were assisted by the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office and the Montgomery Police Department during the incident.
