Washington Street Project Beginning Today

Motorists who regularly travel along a section of Washington Street in Oswego should expect delays for the next several weeks.

Starting Monday, D Construction will begin a resurfacing project along the stretch of road from the new pavement on Route 71 to Route 34.  The surface will be removed and replaced, and select sections of curb and sidewalk also will be replaced.

The road will remain open to traffic during construction. Flaggers will be present to guide traffic through the work zone.

Work is scheduled to be completed by Oct. 31.

The Illinois Department of Transportation also has announced traffic on Route 71 will be rerouted to the new concrete pavement between Orchard Road and Route 34 early this week.

After that, the contractor will continue placing storm sewers and removing the remaining old pavement. Motorists are advised to watch for changing traffic patterns and workers along the roadway.

Route 71 will be heavily congested during this work and motorists may want to consider alternate routes around the work zone.

The intersection of Paradise and Route 71 will be closed for a few of hours during the traffic pattern switch Monday. The existing Route 71 pavement will have to be removed due to the grade difference between the existing pavement and new pavement.
