Both Tuscan Tavern and Salsa Verde should be open in October, according to their owners.
Oswego residents will have two new locally owned restaurants to choose from in the coming weeks.
While exact dates haven't been announced, the owners of both Salsa Verde Mexican Restaurant and Tuscan Tavern have said they plan to open in October. Carlos Aréchiga, owner of Salsa Verde, said his Oswego location should be open in mid- to late October. JoRocco Sisto, owner of Tuscan Tavern, said he hopes to open in about two weeks.
Salsa Verde will be located in the former Panera Bread spot in Oswego Commons. Tuscan Tavern is opening in the Washington Square strip mall near Route 71 and Washington Street.
Sisto said he recently has been putting the finishing touches on the restaurant's interior and the menu. Tuscan Tavern will serve regional Italian cuisine, wood-fired pizzas and pig roasts on Fridays.
Sisto spent the past five months transforming the space once occupied by Hao Sushi and Howie's on 71 into a "Chicago style" dining experience. The Sisto family has run several restaurants in the Chicago area in the past 20 years, including most recently Gratto Italian Tapas in Geneva.
The owners of Salsa Verde also have been working in recent weeks to transform the former Panera into the fourth in its chain of Mexican eateries. Currently there are locations in Yorkville, St. Charles and Indianapolis.
Both restaurants also are now hiring staff. Those interested in applying at Tuscan Tavern may call 630-205-8256 or stop in to the restaurant between the hours of 11-4.
Those wishing to apply for Salsa Verde may stop in the Yorkville location at 634 W. Veterans Parkway, Aréchiga said.
