Mutual Ground Walk For Hope Registration Open

Sep 20, 2015 07:55PM ● By Steven Jack

Local domestic and sexual violence services agency, Mutual Ground, invites you to support and help raise awareness about the issue of domestic violence at their 8th annual Walk For Hope on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Fabyan Forest Preserve in Geneva.

Mutual Ground supports victims of domestic and sexual violence in Kendall and Southern Kane counties by providing counseling, education, emergency shelter, legal, and family services.  More information regarding Mutual Ground's mission and services can be found at

Walk for Hope is Mutual Ground's largest fundraising event of the year with over 250 walkers and 25 sponsors.  Every dollar raised helps Mutual Ground provide services essential to victims' recovery.

This year’s Walk for Hope is even more important to the sustainability of Mutual Ground, as of today the State of Illinois has still not balanced the budget, leaving Mutual Ground and other agencies providing vital service short the funding they receive from DHS.

“We are working on a shoestring budget to continue to provide vital services to victims of these crimes in our area. We are in the middle of our third month of not receiving State funding.  This amounts to an approximate $56,000 per month loss in revenue to provide service to people coming to our doors for help.  We need your help now more than ever to fill this serious gap in funding.”

The event will begin at 9:30am and walker registration starts at 8:00am.  Friends, families and friendly dogs are welcome to come and join walkers or cheer for their favorite team.   Local non-profit partner, Rover Rescue, will match Mutual Ground supporters with dogs in need of forever homes as well as host a dog costume contest.

Face painting, massages, snacks, and more will be available to walkers and their families.  Jimmy John’s of Oswego and Yorkville will be providing a light lunch.

Mutual Ground relies on the generosity of communities and individuals to continue improving the lives of those who seek domestic and sexual violence services.  There is still time to create or join a team or donate to a current walker by visiting
