OHS Junior Donates School Supplies to Needy Students

Oswego High School junior Kylie Schimmel has donated about $4,300 to local charities during the last three years through her bow-making business, and School District 308 is the most recent benefactor of her generosity.
Schimmel made her bows at the recent Oswego Beats and Eats festival on July 25, and used the proceeds to purchase about $150 in school supplies for district students from families who cannot afford the supplies. Her business, Kylie’s Creations, donates all proceeds to charities.
“I always pick a different charity, depending on which craft show I’m in,” Scmimmel said.
Executive Director of District Student Services Valerie Patterson said she was inspired by Kylie’s commitment to serving her community and thrilled with her generous donation of school supplies.
“These school supplies will certainly be put to good use in helping students from across the district,” Patterson said. “The student services team is always happy to align donations in ways that best assist families in need.”
The donation from Kylie’s Creations included:
  • 47 pink erasers
  • 29 pairs of scissors
  • 28 notebooks
  • 27 sharpies
  • 27 pens
  • 27 packs of crayons
  • 26 folders
  • 22 rulers
  • 15 pencil boxes
  • 13 compass/protractor sets
  • 11 boxes of colored pencils
  • 10 paints
  • 9 bottles of glue
  • 9 packs of index cards
  • 7 packs of markers
  • 7 binders
  • 4 packs of paper
  • 3 expanders
  • 2 packs of post-its
