Welcome to Oswego Sign Stolen: Police

One of the village of Oswego's newly installed "Welcome to Oswego" signs was stolen recently on Wooley Road. This sign above is located along Route 25.

Welcome sign stolen

Oswego Police reported that someone stole one of the new Welcome to Oswego signs placed around the village from a location near Wooley and Douglas roads. The theft occurred sometime before July 26, and the value of the sign is estimated at $1,320, police said.

Domestic battery

Joseph Morales, 27, of Oswego Township, was arrested for domestic battery at about 9 a.m. July 25 at his home in the 0-99 block of Rocky Way, according to a Kendall County Sheriff's Office report. Morales allegedly hit a household member.

Domestic battery

Cassandra Janoski, 53, of Oswego, was arrested for domestic battery at about 10:40 p.m. July 25 at her home in the 700 block of Magnolia Court, according to an Oswego Police report. She was taken to the Kendall County Jail. 

Domestic battery

Marquette Sanchez. 20, of Oswego Township, was arrested for domestic battery at about 12:45 p.m. July 25 near his home in the 1300 block of Light Road, according to a Kendall County Sheriff's Office report. After allegedly striking a female in the area, he fled on foot and was later apprehended by police, the sheriff's office said. 

Fleeing police

Jose Baez, of Oswego Township, was arrested for speeding and fleeing and eluding police at about 7:50 p.m. July 23 near Route 31 and Anchor Drive, according to a Kendall County Sheriff's Office report. Deputies originally tried to pull Baez over near the Fox Metro plant and he allegedly fled police until pulling over in 100 block of Dolores near his home, the sheriff's office said. Baez was taken to the Kendall County Jail. 

Speeding

Daniel Olivares, 49, of Oswego, was arrested for driving more than 30 mph over the speed limit at about 9 p.m. July 22 near Orchard Road and Lewis Street, according to a Kendall County Sheriff's Office report. Olivares was allegedly traveling 80 mph in a 45 mph zone.

Car break-in

A resident in the 400 block of Anthony Court reported to police that someone entered his car sometime before 4 p.m. July 22, according to an Oswego Police report. Value of the items taken from the car are estimated at $1,400, police said.

Bikes stolen

A resident in the 500 block of Tewksbury Circle, reported two bikes were stolen from the home's porch sometime before 8:30 a.m. July 21. The bikes are valued at about $250, Oswego Police said. 

Woman flees police

Alexandra Lestina, 42, of Oswego, was arrested for fleeing and eluding police, obstructing police and speeding at about 11:20 p.m. July 21 near Route 34 and Prairie Market, according to an Oswego Police report. 

Jewelry theft

A resident in the 300 block of Matena Drive reported jewelry valued at more than $500 was stolen from the home sometime before 1 a.m. July 20. There are no suspects in the case, Oswego Police said. 

Burglary

Oswego Police are investigating a residential burglary that occurred in the 300 block of Kensington Drive sometime before 11 p.m. July 20. No other details are available regarding the burglary.

Construction zone enforcement results

The Oswego Police Department, Yorkville Police and Kendall County Sheriff's Office recently concluded a week-long traffic enforcement effort focusing on traffic violations in construction zones. The following citations were given out:

  • Speeding 18
  • Cell phone 3
  • Safety belt 6
  • Uninsured motorist 5
  • Improper lane usage 2
  • Equipment violations 2
  • Expired registration 2
  • Suspended license 1
