Local martial artist Mason Bumba will represent the U.S. in Benidorm, Spain in November by competing in the World Kickboxing Association Unified World Championship.
Mason, who is 9 and trains in Oswego, has been studying martial arts since the age of 4. After successfully becoming a black belt two years ago, he has been competing nationally within the NASKA circuit.
Last year he was the boys 9 & under World Champion for point fighting and placed in the top 3 for forms and weapons. This year he is rated No. 1 in the country for boys 9 & under in point fighting, traditional weapon/forms, and creative weapon/forms.
Mason is extremely dedicated to the martial arts. He practices 5-6 days a week to perfect his basic skills along with his weapons, forms, and point fighting. Mason travels all year to compete in California, Florida, Washington D.C., Atlanta, and many more. He also competed in Ireland at the Irish Open this past March winning 1 silver and 2 bronze medals.
Mason has started a GoFundMe campaign in hopes of raising enough money to cover his expenses to reach his destination, tournament fees, and uniforms. Any additional funds raised will go towards his next international tournament opportunity. Any donations are greatly appreciated.
