Oswego's own cycling Paralympic Gold Medal winner Joe Berenyi is having quite a year.

First, in March
Berenyi won two world titles at the 2015 UCI Para-Cycling Track World Championships in the Netherlands. Now, Berenyi has been nominated for one of America's top awards in sports — the ESPY — in the Best Male Athlete with a Disability category.

Berenyi became a paralympic athlete after losing his right arm and left knee cap in a construction accident. In addition to this year's World Championship titles, Berenyi won a Gold, Silver and Bronze metal at the 2012 London Paralympic games.

"I am honored and humbled by the nomination," Berenyi said. "I am proud that (the ESPYs) recognize disabled athletes along side the elite."

The ESPYs are annual awards given by the sports network ESPN for achievements in individual and team sports. This year's ceremony is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, in Los Angeles. The ceremony will be broadcast on ABC.

In part, the ESPYs are awarded through online fan balloting.
