Community Unit School District 308 has promoted former Oswego East High School (OEHS) Dean of Students Gerald Wicks as the next assistant principal at Thompson Junior High School, beginning in the 2015-16 school year.

The Board of Education approved the hire at its July 13 Board of Education meeting. Wicks served as OEHS dean of students since 2010, where he administered school and district discipline policies and managed attendance.

“Mr. Wicks has a wealth of experience in educational leadership, and we are confident he will be the right person for the Thompson Junior High School team,” Associate Superintendent for Administrative Services Dr. John Sparlin said. “We are looking forward to having Mr. Wicks join the Thompson administration team.”

Before his time as dean of students, Wicks worked as a math teacher at Batavia High School, in School District 101. He also worked as the athletic director for Granada High School, in Livermore, Calif.

He has a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Missouri, St. Louis, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.
