Applications Now Available for District 308 Dual Language Program

Community Unit School District 308 is now seeking applications for its Dual Language (DL) program for the 2015-16 school year.

DL is open to students entering Kindergarten only. It will be housed at Hunt Club Elementary School. There is a separate selection process drawn from a pool of interested native English and native Spanish-speaking EL students. Native Spanish-speaking EL students will receive priority placement.

Developmental Bilingual Education (DBE) is open to all Spanish-speaking EL students grades Kindergarten through eighth grade. Both programs will focus on student development of bilingualism and biliteracy in English and Spanish.

“We are excited to enhance our EL programming, curriculum and instruction through the revision of our existing Dual Language program and the introduction of our new DBE model,” said Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Dr. Judith Minor. “More students will now have the ability to develop as bilingual and biliterate learners with the expectation of earning the Seal of Biliteracy. It is yet another step in moving towards world class.”

There is no automatic enrollment of DL siblings, or for the children of district employees. Only students currently enrolled in School District 308 will be considered.

The application is available on the Community Unit School District 308 website as of May 28. The deadline for application is June 3 by 3:30 p.m. The application may be dropped off at the school building, the district office, or emailed to The public selection process will be June 8, and attendance is not required. Formal status of selection will be mailed out by approximately June 10.
