Oswego's PrairieFest will once again receive the national television spotlight this year.

Kristie Vest, the Oswegoland Park District's special events supervisor, revealed Tuesday the Food Network will tape an episode of Eating America at this year's fest. The show is hosted by actor and comedian Anthony Anderson, who currently stars in the ABC sitcom Blackish.

Eating America follows Anderson as he travels to the "most colorful and delicious festivals in America, tasting everything from classic interpretations to surprising twists. He'll also meet the amazing characters devoted to these regional favorites and follow some of them as they compete to find the best of the best."

Vest said in a letter to PrairieFest sponsors she was contacted by the shows producers in April after PrairieFest appeared last year on the Cooking Channel show Carnival Eats.  Park District staffers prepared a pitch for Eating America's producer and were informed Monday that PrairieFest had been selected.

"To say the least, we are very enthusiastic about PrairieFest’s opportunity to have national exposure twice in two years," Vest said.

No date has been set for Anderson's appearance at the festival, which this year runs from June 18-21.
