Dominion Martial Arts, owned by local parents, David and Suzana Chacon, is opening its doors to the community Friday and Saturday May 15 and 16.

From 5 to 9 pm Friday and 9 am to 4p m Saturday, the entire 8000-square-foot facility and parking lot will be used to host the Dominion Family Fun Fest and Open House.

The Chacons have planned a full weekend, featuring free classes, demonstrations and assorted activities for all ages including: Mixed Martial Arts for children, teens and adults, Powerhouse Sports Performance, Women’s Self Defense, Live Grappling and Zumba.

Other activities include an onsite bouncy house, tug-of-war competition  and free massages.  In addition to these activities, the event will feature a StrongKid Car Pull, StrongMan Semi-Truck Pull and 5-15K runs.  The weekend will include live music, refreshments and prizes—including a raffle for an iPad Mini.

David Chacon, will deliver “It’s YOUR Time!” a motivational, interactive talk on youth self-worth and leadership-development at 8 pm Friday and 1 pm Saturday. The talk will provide insight and encouragement to both young people and parents.

Chacon has delivered energetic, inspirational speeches to local secondary schools on his own and through Character Counts. Having gone through challenging times in his youth, he is able to connect powerfully with younger audiences.

Chacon has incorporated this approach in teaching youth Mixed Martial Arts at Dominion through his Mat Chats—in alignment with his desire to build self-worth, empowerment and leadership in our youth. The Dominion philosophy is to provide a combination of training and mentorship (especially to youth) that strengthens mind, body and spirit.

Consistent with their desire to be a contribution to their community and beyond, the Chacons are deeply committed to giving back.  Each year they lead mission trips to Honduras, Peru or Guatemala.

Part of the weekend events will include fundraisers for their next group mission trip to Peru: a StrongKid Car Pull, a StrongMan Semi-Truck Pull, a 5K, 10K and 15K adult runs.
