Bednarcik Students Advance in Science Competitions

Bednarcik Junior High School science students are advancing in two separate state competitions.
The school’s Science Olympiad Team competed in the state tournament on Saturday, April 18 at the University of Illinois. In addition, 12 Bednarcik students will compete in the Illinois Junior Academy of Science State Science Fair on May 2, at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
The students competing as part of the Science Olympiad Team at University of Illinois recently won several awards at the Neuqua Valley High School regional competition, and medaled in 13 of 23 events for a fourth place finish, the highest in school history.
Here’s how they finished in regional competition:
  • Trisha Sudhakar and Aakash Bharat placed third in Anatomy and Physiology
  • Trisha Sudhakar and Nitya Chagoor placed fifth in Bio-Process Lab
  • Doug Treftz and Hunter Acuff placed fourth in Crave the Wave
  • Sravani Ponnaluri and Shreya Magesh placed third in Dynamic Planet
  • Nitya Chagoor, Trisha Sudhakar and Olivia Antoniolli placed third in Experimental Design
  • Aryan Vaidya and Aakash Bharat placed fourth in Fossils
  • Aryan Vaidya and Shreya Magesh placed third in Green Generation
  • Derek and Shaiva Dhyani placed third in Meteorology
  • Olivia Antoniolli, Shaiva Dhyani and Caroline Gannon placed fifth in Picture This
  • Doug Treftz and Bharath Sreenivas placed fourth in Simple Machines
  • Shreya Magesh and Enan Srivastava placed third in Solar System
  • Doug Treftz, Hunter Acuff and Bharath Sreenivas placed fifth in Wheeled Vehicle
  • Aakash Bharat and Sravani Ponnaluri placed fifth in Write It, Do it.
