Oswego East High School junior Breanna Jackson won a gold medal in the Engineering category for the DuPage County 36th annual Afro Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) Local Competition on Sunday, March 22 at Ashton Place Banquets in Willowbrook.
ACT-SO is a year-long program designed to encourage high academic and cultural achievement among high school students of African American descent. Jackson, along with Brian Graves Jr., Ebony Graves, and Jahani Pittman represented OEHS in the competition, amongst 29 other area high schools.
Jackson and the 11 local gold medal winners from the region are bound for the ACT-SO National Competition in Philadelphia, Pa. in July.
ACT-SO is the premier youth initiative of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). It has helped nearly 300,000 young people open doors to learning and define career paths, since it was founded 36 years ago.
