The Limelight Theater Company cast rehearses for upcoming performances of 'Steel Magnolias.'

“Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion.”

One of the best ways to beat cabin fever is with a little emotional catharsis. Robert Harling’s Steel Magnolias is a play is a slice of Southern life has everything from hairdos to heartbreak. The Oswegoland Park District’s Limelight Theatre Company is excited to bring Steel Magnolias to the Little White School Museum this month.

Get all of the latest gossip from Truvy's beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are "anybody" come to have their hair done. Steel Magnolias is alternately hilarious and touching—and, in the end, deeply revealing of the strength and purposefulness which underlies the antic banter of its characters. The current of strength and love makes the play truly touching, and its characters funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad.

The Limelight Theatre Company chose to produce Steel Magnolias, with its all female cast, to showcase the immensely talented actresses in the company. This play was the basis for the 1989 film of the same name starring Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis , & Shirley MacLaine. The Limelight cast includes Ally Bockay, Annalise Palatine, Emma Kiser, Sabrina Parduhn, Renee Niederkorn, & Elizabeth Arney performing on Wednesday and Friday and Emily Glover, Amanda Ruby, Michelle Doucet, Ginger Simons, Lu Anne Harkins, & Julie Kiser performing on Thursday and Saturday.

Make it a Girl’s Night Out on February 18, 19, 20 & 21. Grab dinner at your favorite local restaurant and then catch the show at 7 pm at the Little White School Museum (72 Polk Street). Be prepared to laugh and cry along with these delightful characters, and hopefully leave with a new appreciation for the amazing individuals of strength and inspiration in your own life.
