● By Steven Jack
Name: Dru Sanchez
School: Thompson Jr. High
What makes him a Kid Who Cares: Dru has been growing his hair out for over a year. He's been growing it so that he can shave it all off for St. Baldrick's Day.
There wasn't a planned public event in Oswego this year. So, he worked with his school, and they are now having a St. Baldrick's event to raise awareness and money for children's cancer research. On March 27, Dru will go from a kid with a lion's heart and mane to being just a kid with a lion's heart.
He is shaving his head in solidarity with the daughter of friends of his parents. Hope Bolster was diagnosed with a rare cancer when she was just 2 years old. Hope's mom had already been battling metastatic cancer when Hope was diagnosed. She's been bravely fighting for over three years.
Dru, his brother and sister, and their parents all hope that Hope can kick cancer to the curb, and we're hoping that we can raise funds to help make childhood cancer a thing of the past.
