A 40-year-old Oswego man was taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center Thursday night after driving his minivan into the Fox River.

According to Deputy Bryan Harl, a spokesman with the Kendall County Sheriff's Department, the man suffered a medical emergency at about 6:45 p.m. while driving in the 0-99 block of Marina Drive off Route 31.

His van then left the road and traveled about 30 feet into the river, coming to rest in about 3 feet of icy water, Harl said.

Sheriff's deputies went in after the man and were able to reach him in his vehicle, which had taken on less than an inch of water, Harl said. The man was conscious as he was taken back to shore, according to reports.

He was then taken by Oswego Fire Protection District paramedics to Rush-Copley for minor injuries sustained in the accident, Harl said.

The driver was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and operating an uninsured vehicle, Harl said.
