An active School District volunteer has announced her candidacy for the Oswego School District 308 Board.

Lauri Doyle, who has served on several School District committees and as a parent volunteer, said her top concern is the lack of respect that she says has been shown to parents in recent years, and the erosion of trust that has caused. She also questioned what she called a "business-centric culture" that has developed in the district.

"School administrators are public servants, not corporate management. They should not be in the business of anything,"she said.

Doyle said she plans to work with all of the communities within the district to encourage commercial and industrial growth to "
to relieve the (property tax) burden on homeowners."

She also said it's time to improve education programs like Academically Talented and raise them to standards comparable to neighboring districts. Doyle also voiced her support for the district's
Dual Language program, which has come under fire in recent months.

Doyle has one child in the district, and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Biology and a Master's Degree in Accounting.

She has served on the district's Finance and Operations Advisory Board, the Strategic Planning Task Force, and the 2012 Boundary Committee. Doyle also has served as a member of the Parent Communication Council, and has served as treasurer for both East View Elementary and Long Beach Elementary Home and School Groups.
