A new assistant director of special programs has been selected to help improve student achievement throughout Community Unit School District 308, beginning in the 2014-15 school year.
The District 308 Board of Education approved the hire of Elgin resident Theresa Ulrich to fill the position on Monday, June 23. She replaces Ivette Dubiel. Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Dr. Judy Minor said that Ulrich is the ideal person to help the district excel.
“Theresa Ulrich comes to us with a wealth of English learner (EL) and bilingual experience, which she can easily draw from in her new position,” Minor said. “She also has experience working in large school districts. I believe she will be the ideal candidate to help ensure that our programming will meet our students’ needs.”
Ulrich will assist in the operation of the EL program, which includes the transitional bilingual education (TBE) program, the transitional program of instruction (TPI), the dual language program, and the ESL resource program. She will also assist with managing the budget for the EL department, as well as a variety of other duties. Ulrich is set to begin her position with the district at a salary of $86,093.
Ulrich most recently served as the EL/bilingual division chair at East Aurora School District 131. She has also been an EL teacher in Elmhurst, Elgin, and Berkeley.
She has a master’s degree in literature and linguistics, and a bachelor’s degree in English education and French from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb.
“I really see this position as an excellent fit not just for me, but for the district,” said Ulrich.
