Southbury Principal Lindsay Allen and author Steven Layne.

Author Steven Layne visited Southbury Elementary School on Thursday, April 24.

The students enjoyed the day learning about Steven’s literature and the process of getting a book published. At the end of the day, there was a surprise assembly in which Layne presented the school with a $500 donation to go towards Southbury’s next chosen author for their “One Author One School” program.

In addition, Layne announced that he has dedicated his next book to someone he admires for her dedication to ignite the passion to learn and to her students, Principal Lindsay Allen.

The “One Author One School” program is a yearlong, in-depth study of a well-known Illinois author that allows students exposure to a variety of genres. Writing and reading lessons are designed to incorporate the featured author’s works. At the end of the school year, students are treated to a visit by the author and each student receives an autographed copy of one of the author’s books.

This marks Southbury’s second year of successfully teaching with the “One Author One School” program.
