Reporting a Problem to the Village About to Go Mobile

Street light out in your neighborhood? Pothole too big to miss? Now, there’s an app for that.
Starting in the coming months residents of Oswego will be able to download and use the See Click Fix app to their smart phones to help report problems that need attention around the village.
“The application will provide the citizens the ability for remote identification of requested service. Common issues include potholes, broken streetlights, garbage, vandalism, and other problems that compromise public spaces and infrastructure,” according to village documents. “Using a mobile device or a computer, anyone can enter information (ideally with a photo) about a problem at a given location. This report is then routed to the relevant authority to address the problem.”
Village trustees last week approved funding for the program, which will cost the village $8,000 in a one-time set up fee and $6,000 annually.
“This will encourage residents to get proactive in taking care of and improving their neighborhoods in reporting these issues to us,” said Mark Horton, village Finance Director. “It’s easy to use and easy to report.”
Trustee Scott Volpe has been pushing for the implementation of such a program in the village for about two years.
“I want to thank you for looking into to it,” he said. “I know I’ve been on your case for a long time, and I think it’s a great system.”
With See Click Fix, once a problem is reported a village employee will route the issue to the proper department and generate a work order to have it addressed.
Horton said the village will use the system internally for a few months to make sure any bugs are worked out before rolling it out to residents.
