Oswego firefighters spent about 20 minutes battling a field fire Friday night in the 100 block of Amherst Circle.

The call came in at about 5:50 p.m. for a field that had caught fire and quickly spread due to windy and dry conditions, said Battalion Chief Dan Schiradelly. The fire burned about 6 acres of prairie grass before it was brought under control 20 minutes later, Schiradelly said.

No homes were evacuated during the call, and the closest fire came to any homes was about 75 yards, Schiradelly said. Though reports said the fire may have been started by fireworks being set off in the area, Schiradelly said the cause of the fire is still undetermined.

A brush fire truck from the Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District also was called in to help put out the blaze, Schiradelly said.
