Oswego Business Update: Panera Sets Opening Date

Mar 24, 2014 04:52PM ● By Steven Jack
Panera Bread will open at its new location in Gerry Centennial Plaza (Douglas and Route 34) on May 7, according to the village of Oswego's Economic Development Director Vijay Gadde. The location, which is moving from Oswego Commons near Home Depot, will feature a drive-thru window.

The once-rumored Tide Dry Cleaners deal that was proposed for next door to the new Panera will not proceed, Gadde said. A dental office will take up one of the three storefronts in the strip with the other remaining vacant for now.

The anchor tenant set to take over the majority of space in the old Lowe's location will be announced in the next few weeks, Gadde said. A few points on the lease agreement still are being worked out, and then an official announcement revealing the tenant will be made. Village President Brian LeClercq has hinted at the store's identity by saying it's a national retailer known for being closed on Sundays.

Not much progress is being made regarding the former Dominick's location. Gadde said Dominick's parent Safeway is holding tight to the idea that the building can be leased to another single-tenant grocery chain. Absent that happening, Gadde said it would be in the village's interest that the space be divided up to market to multiple tenants.
